The India & London Fashion Week waist coat trend

RunwayMeet Sara K

Now here’s a trend you can’t ignore - I came across the longline waist coat jacket on British and Asian runway. First at Lakme Fashion Week with Anita Dongre and now Paul Smith at London Fashion Week. And now you’ve spotted it on me at Sara K blog.

Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre’s garment is more of a tailored waist coat jacket matched with brocade style trousers. On the other hand, British designer Paul Smith’s version is loose with satin detailing on the collars and edges of the garment.

Everyone’s preferences are different, I love Anita’s styling, tailoring of jacket and length because it’s very feminine and elegant touch l thrive on. Where as l like Paul Smith’s detailing and it is more everyday casual styling but you can play with trousers to stand out or accessorise to dress it up.

As for me, I purchased my waist coat jacket from Sisley a few months ago. And l brought the jacket as the fabric had a luxury silk touch and the black against the golden beige gave it that timeless piece must have.

I decided to do something different with my look. I went for a patterned top and sleeves then a complimentary waist belt. I wore my jacket to House of iKons over the weekend; this was before l knew about Paul Smith show at London Fashion Week.

As House of ikons showcased designers from various backgrounds l wanted to combine a western and eastern pieces for example, high waisted trousers from the high street. The dress (tucked in the trousers) was an Asian inspired dress l made from fabric purchased from a Asian fabric shop in Luton a year ago. This is one of my favourite dresses as it has a beautiful golden shine pattens that matched the golden detailing on my waist coat trim.

If you want that British Asian fashion look that you can wear everyday in Spring/Summer 2015 - long jacket waist coats are the way to go!
