Modest fashion with Giambattista Valli

RunwayMeet Sara K

The last few weeks l have been looking at Asian trends and fashion events. This week l have been blogging about the couture runway which is underway this week in Paris. As a British (western) and Asian (eastern) fashion blog l try to give my readers a different perspective on fashion and I love seeing fusion fashion from all over the world.

In June l looked at modest fashion and the growing trend of Islamic fashion. Now certain elements of the designs in this next collection reminded me of The Urban Muslim Women Show 2014 and l was inspired. Every country, culture and religion is different and when it comes together on the runway it’s inspiring. And earlier this week l came across Giambattista Valli’s AW collection in Paris and it reminded me of Middle-Eastern and British Asian modest fashion.

First Chanel with their Cruise Collection Dubai, where they used Islamic patterns rather than the designer or cut and now Giambattista Valli does quiet the opposite, he uses western fabrics with modest fashion cuts and designs.

You have to appreciated Giambattista Valli’s runway show from strippy dress and dupatta to monotone jackets and for subtle trousers grey strips. If you're not a fan of strips small floral patterns are a Giambattista Valli trend from fitted skirts to full floral outfits. The fashion very avant garde and whatever Valli does, it's too much with Valli’s collection.

l particularly loved the mid waist jackets, high waisted trousers, peplum tops and again long skirts ideal for everyday casual wear. You could always jazz up a outfit with accessories if you were going out to a evening dinner party or out with friends.

I even spotted the Asian jacket style trend (photo 4) where as Valli put his own extraordinary twist on it the fabric pattern gives the ruffle effect. The creams and off whites seem to be a must have colour this season as a base to  build your outfit around! It makes a nice change from the black we all love and wear but black isn’t the best especially in the sunny summer weather. And l want the Valli cape below. l particularly love the cream slit with gold detailing dress, definitely a classic all year around.

Plus how could l not feature Valli’s ball gowns which he always seems to execute seemlessly. I certainly love the way Valli brings a new dimension to layering fabric, he keeps it very simple yet combines the perfect pieces and the cut of the fabric it’s as if the models were born to wear them. The collection brings a fashionable, high end yet very stylish and colourful element not what most of us are used to seeing with traditional hijab fashion. Just sew up the slits, add sleeves where required and your ready to go.

Valli even went as far as adding a headscarf piece on all the models. I can’t be going mad with the modest fashion theme. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

This has to be one of the best collections for me, Giambattista Valli’s vision astounds me, that’s what makes Valli’s collections out of this world. If you are looking for Islamic fashion trends and inspiration Valli is the one to follow this Fall.
